Google is celebrating its 20th anniversary throughout September and, as part of the festivities, the tech giant is highlighting some of the most useful things around its Search programme.
Google’s search engine is the most used software of its kind and is used to carry out trillions of searches every year.
To celebrate that fact, the company has created a list of “secret and not-so-secret” tips to help users get the most out of their searches.
Here is a look at some of the highlights.
1. Cinema times and tickets
Google a film currently in cinemas and Search will automatically show a list of viewing times and locations based on where you currently are, helping you schedule a movie into your day if you have the chance.
2. Recipe searches
If you’re looking for a quick recipe, search on mobile and a carousel of suggestions will appear in the search results, giving users multiple options to choose from.
3. Job searches
Search be position and add the phrase “near me” and Google is able to show job listings in a condensed list from across different jobs sites in one place, saving users time trawling through different websites.
4. Tip calculator
Google the phrase “tip calculator” and a special table will appear that enables users to enter their total bill, the percentage tip they’d like to pay and the number of people involved to see the total per person and how much to tip.
5. Google image search
Upload a photo or its URL to Google Images, and the search engine will find the same or similar photos on the web, as well as tell you more details about the image and its origins.
6. Advanced search
Then, for those looking for a more in-depth level of search, there is Google’s Advanced Search feature.
This enables users to adjust the parameters of a search in fine detail, specifying the exact words and phrases they’re looking for as well as language or region the results appear in.
