‘Dónde votar?’ is Google’s top trending search on Election …

admin November 8, 2018

Americans often turn to Google when they have a question, and Election Day was no different.

In fact, some were turning to the search engine with the hopes it would tell them who to vote for.

But the biggest question on Tuesday morning was about location. Google revealed that the top trending search was ‘dónde votar’ – which translates to ‘where to vote’ in Spanish.

The phrase spiked by 3,350 percent in anticipation of Tuesday’s midterm races.

‘Where to vote’ in English also trended on Election Day, but saw a smaller spike.

Three of the top five trending search topics in the US had to do with the elections.

‘Polling place’ saw a 350 percent increase, while ‘voting’ and ‘Election day’ saw a 300 percent increase.

When it came to asking questions, most Americans wanted to know what time the polls opened on Election Day.

The second highest trending question on voting was ‘Who to vote for today?’, followed by ‘Where do I vote today?’

Rounding out the top five were questions on ‘What to bring to vote?’ and ‘How long does it take to vote?’

Among the specific questions about US midterm elections, the top trending question on Tuesday was ‘Who are my candidates in local elections?’

Google Trends is also tracking the top four issues that voters are searching about on Election Day.

It found that 44 percent are searching about health care, 31 percent are googling immigration, while 13 percent are focused on abortion and 12 percent are researching property taxes.

Google Trends also gives insight into searches in states with hotly contested races, including Georgia, Florida, and Texas.

If searches are a positive indication, then Brian Kemp and Ron DeSantis could be in trouble.

The Georgia map shows no searches for Kemp in the lead-up to his race against Stacey Abrams for governor.

And DeSantis barely shows up in a similar Florida map as he faces off in the governor race against Andrew Gillum.

The same logic could mean good news, though, for Ted Cruz.

In addition to tracking data, Google has been offering a helping hand to help Americans figure out where to vote on Election Day.

The Google Doogle on Tuesday were the words ‘Go Vote’ instead of the search engine’s name.

And, with a simple click, the doodle takes users to a tool in search the helps voters find their nearest polling station.

All they have to do is type in the complete street address of where they are registered to vote to find out where the nearest voting station is and what its hours of operation are.

Once the results start rolling in Google will also provide real-time results for both the Senate and House races.
